Poem: Comparison

Comparison

can you

feel the blush

of phoenix burning bright

when a grasshopper

dons a butterfly's cape

while leaping through a gnat-swarm

frenzied and greasy with sun?

can you

hear ducks not so quiet

conversing on a silk-blue lake

about an owl who questions

the prophecies of a lark?

can you

accept the reels of an eagle

to deny a jet plane?

4/20/26 .. not much I can do

5/20/24 ...

Coldest it's been in four decades here in Maine, gusts to -50F, on this 23rd anniversary of my brother's death.
