Poem: Relive

Relive

colors flirt

where preconception fails.

i swim deeper,

till awkward layers and shelves

grab at my lying face.

pain and tragedy

barnacle the humps of downward whales.

tigerfish quills, fearsome with passion,

accost me where manta rays,

cloaked in whirlwinds of grunion,

hover judicious.

so many emotions lost,

bold of beautiful shape:

heroic, truthful, sexual

betrayed by venetian slits green and blue,

or urgent coral-

diffracted chrysanthemum.

this ocean, ripe of banishment,

dangerous with love songs;

this teeming, ghost-adored depth

of immortal ballads,

where kraken roam in heartache--

dare i venture such depths,

plunder in glints of drizzled treasure,

among the enviable youth

of sharp teeth?
