Micro-fiction: Myopia

Do we dwell in self-delusion as a culture?  Yes.  Must we always?  No.  Ten thousand years in the future, or a million, the inhabits of Earth might look back at us in appalled shock at our self-centered myopia.  After all, why should a mere 5000 years of 'civilized' history determine everything we think and believe about the capability of a collective consciousness that can evolve indefinitely through the long stretch of universal life?
