Poem: Cocktail Party

Cocktail Party

laughter the barb,

protocol the wire,

flutters of lips,

urbanites turned magpie,

or a chuckle of crows

near a lamb to murder.

wax of wit seductive

over daiquiri boasts,

maraschinos and olives

semi-coy on suave ponds,

not-so-impressionable waterlillies

of martinis and cosmos.

such banter-ballets

of cherry-tongue twists,

sprezzatura

wielding a slight whip

somewhere down scent

to catch a blush.
