Poem Break Down Up

Break Down Up

how to think about so much heart-

slaying when to understand

is itself a wound?

to dig out, somehow, by

cutting deeper into the

thickness, wiser in ways,

untangled to re-tangle?

as if the quest was

how to grow in a soil

which, once rummaged,

lost its tenderness.

a white dahlia, even,

glows over a stalk descendent into

fingers grasping at rich mounds

of death.

and so

from what height on a slip-

ping pedestal of tilted

ideals could an injured

angel stretch wings?

fly away from gargantuan

waves of dusky moods ex-

panding over decayed cities?

how to angle and grapple with it,

devise and counterweigh.

how to …

how to veer off

from this famishing crest

of soul-sucking gloom.
