Poem: Before

Before

no bald pigs slopping at troughs,

no gelded, branded, broken chattel,

instead roams of aurochs.

foams of errant bats,

and weaves of neon fish

who escher-dart through

tapestries of kelp

luminous with pregnant medusas.

no satellites which slice through the waist of Venus,

no contrails cruel as a rogue bullet,

none of that flatulence

from an airplane’s ass.

instead

prosperous skies,

opulent with minstrel flocks,

blossoms of vivid butterflies

flirty with lucent moths,

how they waltz, tango,

effuse, pirouette ...

no streetlamps to confuse them,

no pavement to mar such primal esplanades,

which pollinate golden.

no corporate pollutants,

those unnatural effluents and excrements

poisonous

to all that has ever breathed.
