Poem: Skeleton Contemplation

Skeleton Contemplation

ripped by eagles

who peck in shrieks of flesh strewn by wolf phrases,

my heart as barbed as roses as squashed as the bowels of

a roadkill snake while the prune-smooth vultures

funnel oozy scraps so glossy/slovenly they

stab stab stab through a mania of flies.

my bare skull gawks chummy with blood,

plum-sized sockets fleshlessly tasked in unwalled night's tomb

to assemble a skeletal abacus.

“Contemplating One’s Own Skeleton”

The essential elements of this mystical vision

are the being divested of flesh and the

numbering and naming of the bones.
