Poem: Looking Over

Looking Over

if the ocean were flows

of mirrored chalices,

carousels borne on froth

and mane,

would it not sparkle

of romance and satin,

galloping raves in whirls of stars?

would life itself,

the whole parade of fierce exuberance,

not glisten across a theatric canvas?

joy and orgy,

illusion and mélange,

pendulum and pointillism,

ravage and feast?

if the ocean harbored such players,

would it not then be

a chrysanthemum

fickle from fleet yet immortal petals?

such dangers and prizes,

juggles of cauldrons,

airy with cocoons of

unsolved legends, what if

the ocean were the crux

of this dissolute comportment--

would it not then be

what we dream?
