Poem: Comparison

Comparison

can you

feel the blush

of phoenix burning bright

when a grasshopper

dons a butterfly's cape

to leap a caduceus of gnats

quick and greasy with sun?

can you

decipher ducks not so quiet

on a silk-blue lake

while they converse about an owl

who questions the omen of a lark?

can you

let the reels of an eagle

erase the fingernail-scratch contrail

of a jet plane?

10/26 eh ...

4/20/26 .. not much I can do

5/20/24 ...

Coldest it's been in four decades here in Maine, gusts to -50F, on this 23rd anniversary of my brother's death.
