Poem: Restless

Restless

sapphire and gold,

the ocean blushes

wallowing on sumptuous pillows

no human will sleep.

dreams toss and lift,

amorphous and nude,

wild as they were long before any gods came along

and proclaimed death a one-way door.

figments of sunlight

frolic the absinthean waters,

excited only to wane,

foamy, restless,

a pulse of lovers,

dancing in white-green gardens,

wet of heat, arching to sink,

sways within swells

of a liquid pendulum

multifaceted in mercurial ache.

the great greengray gaze of the Atlantic,

it swallows and shapes

every ember inside every ship,

every hope carried in the hull of a universe inside every dream.

are we not all ship-borne,

riding the quixotic vastness, staring up,

eager for a trace.
